התאנה (והגפן) היו שני גידולים חקלאיים חשובים ביותר לפרנסה. טיפוחן חייב "ואין מחריד" ולפיכך רבים אזכוריהן במקורותינו היהודיים, והן מסמלות שלווה, אחווה, שפע ושלום.
וְיָשְׁבוּ, אִישׁ תַּחַת גַּפְנוֹ וְתַחַת תְּאֵנָתוֹ–וְאֵין מַחֲרִיד (מיכה ד, ד).
וַיֵּשֶׁב יְהוּדָה וְיִשְׂרָאֵל לָבֶטַח, אִישׁ תַּחַת גַּפְנוֹ וְתַחַת תְּאֵנָתוֹ, מִדָּן, וְעַד-בְּאֵר שָׁבַע–כֹּל, יְמֵי שְׁלֹמֹה (מלכים א ה, ה).
בגבעת תום ותומר תאנים לבנות, סגולות ושחורות. אסף הרופא מדבר בשבח השחורות וממליץ שלא להרבות הרבה באכילת הלבנות.
ניתן למרוח את החלב הנוטף מהעלה או מהפרי שנקטף על יבלות בגוף מדי יום במשך כמה ימים וסופן שינשרו.
One of the seven species
Commonly found in all regions of the country except the desert. Its fruits are juicy and can be preserved by drying and made into dried fig cake. Remains of figs that grew 9,000 years ago were found during excavations in Jericho.
The fig-tree putteth forth her green figs, and the vines in blossom give forth their fragrance. Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away (Song of Songs 2:13).
The Fig tree is the first tree mentioned in the Bible. It is written about Adam and Eve: And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig-leaves together, and made themselves girdles (Genesis 3:7).
The fig (and the vine) were the two most important crops for livelihood. Their cultivation is obligatory “and none shall make them afraid” and therefore they are mentioned many times in Jewish sources, and they symbolize serenity, alliance, abundance, and peace.
But they shall sit every man under his vine and under his fig-tree; and none shall make them afraid (Micah 4:4).
And Judah and Israel dwelt safely, every man under his vine and under his fig-tree, from Dan even to Beer-sheba, all the days of Solomon (1 Kings 5:5).
White, purple, and black figs all grow on Tom and Tomer Hill. Asaph the Physician speaks in praise of black figs and recommends not eating too many of the white ones.
The milk that drips from the leaf or fruit that has been picked can be applied to warts on the body every day for several days and eventually they will fall off.
