מין יחיד בסוג אחירותם ממשפחת הקטניות. ענפי השיח כהים ודומים לענפי הרותם, ומכאן שמו. פריחתו הצהובה והריחנית בולטת בחודשי מאי ויוני בחורשים של הגליל, הכרמל והשומרון, וגם בגבעת תום ותומר, ומפיקים ממנה שמן לתמרוקים. זרעיו השחורים מבריקים ורעילים. בגן מתרבה מזרעיו.
This tree’s yellow and fragrant bloom, from which oil is extracted, is seen in May and June in groves in the Galilee, the Carmel, and Samaria, as well as at the Tom and Tomer Hill. Its black seeds are shiny and poisonous. Its seeds are dropped in the garden producing new plants.
