Mt. Tabor Oak Quercus ithaburensis

The Mt. Tabor Oak was also called the “Bashan Oak” in ancient times due to its wide spread in the Bashan region in Syria. Remains of forests can still be found in Gilad, on the slopes of Yehudiya, in the Tivon Forest, in the Tal grove, and several other places.
The Mt. Tabor oak’s large, sweet acorns are especially popular with the wild boars, and we too can enjoy their flavor after lightly roasting them.
In burial places of holy people near Mt. Tabor oaks, the trees were protected and have reached heights of up to 15 meters. In recent years the KKL-JNF and nature rangers have started to restore them to their glory and have planted a variety of trees in the forests, including oaks, Atlantic Pistacia, and others.
