האלון המצוי היה בזמנים קדומים העץ הנפוץ ביותר בארץ. עם כיבוש הארץ בידי יהושע בן נון הוחל בבירוא יערות האלונים. גם היום בשמורות הטבע הוא העץ הנפוץ ביותר. היום חודר האלון המצוי אל חלקות זית נטושות ואל בין האורנים ביערות קק"ל. נראה שכאשר נחדל להתערב בחיי העצים, שוב יהיה האלון המצוי שליט החורש הארץ-ישראלי.
In ancient times the Palestine Oak was the most common tree in Israel. When the land was conquered by Joshua ben Nun we saw the start of deforestation of the oak forests. Still today it is the most common tree in nature reserves. Today the oak trees have penetrated abandoned olive plots and they can be found among the pine trees in KKL-JNF forests. It seems that once we stop interfering with the life of the trees the Palestine Oak will once more rule the Israeli forests.
